Delivering some Happiness through Blood Donation
Posted on June 6, 2017 by Rhea Godleman in Basingstoke News (clinic: Basingstoke)
After previously working within a Specialist Oncology Centre at Royal Surrey Hospital it made me realise the importance of donating blood. These people are having treatment and without our help they may not be able to have chemotherapy. This lifesaving treatment doesn’t just kill malignant cells it also damages bone marrow making it difficult for the body to produce red blood cells, therefore patients become anaemic and cannot go forward with any further treatment until their blood count has risen, so for this reason I find it so important to do what we can to help!
It takes less than an hour to donate and it can save so many lives. I have been donating every 12 weeks for the last 3 years and that moment you get the text saying where your blood has been used is relieving.
In the next few weeks I have encouraged staff here at envisage dental in Basingstoke to make a difference with me and between us we could be saving a life of someone that could be important to you. If you wish to find out more please follow www.blood.co.uk. Some of the team gave blood on 8 June 2017, the first of many sessions we hope!
In the future I hope to encourage the teams across our clinics to donate blood to help make a difference!
